That means you have to change out some individual templatesĪfter one pass and go over those letters again to complete the letter. You have to use two separate templates for some letters to complete them. One thing I liked about the Milescraft system, besides the longer guide bushing, is that only one pass is required. There is only about 1/16” of guide bushing extending into the template and I thought I could have trouble with it jumping out. I was a little bit nervous about the Rockler template at first because Lines and the Rockler for the bottom line. I used the Milescraft template for the top two For a first batch I made 4 signs all alike.

Milescraft 2 3/8” letters and the Rockler 3 1/2” letters. I wound up buying both because neither company had all the letter sizes I needed. I looked into Milescraft and Rockler templates. I had never used router templates before, but I’ve worked with tools all my life. I needed to make some signs for our local Open Land Trust. If you are happy with just one font this might be just the right sign making jig for you. It is faster to use than a PantographPRO, however the latter is more versatile. Bushing will lose a contact with a template for a moment when routing those, so this is where focus and steady hands are needed. Some letters are very easy to rout and come up very nice every time (C, I, J, L, S, U) but others are a bit difficult due to their shape (A, R, B, K, X, W, N, M etc). However, in real life using this requires a bit of a learning. The idea is very simple… one loads stencils for the letters into the rail which holds them together and serves as a surface for the router to rest and move on. However, plastic templates for the letters can be damaged by the router bit, so one needs to be focused and careful. That means that one can have dedicated router for use with Milescraft jigs on which one base plate could be mounted – what a time saver!Īll parts are well made of quality material. For those who already have other Milescraft jigs designed to use with a router there is a good news: it is made with TurnLock Technology as well, so it uses the same router base plate as other jigs. All one needs to have is a router with 1/4″ collet. There is a limitation, only one type of font in two sizes: 1.5” and 2.5″. For more information go to In the box one will find everything that is needed to rout text in wood. * When using this router template guide, be sure that the bushing Is installed on the BasePlate before routing
